Whilst targeting the final man, now Batman's mortal enemy the Joker, Andrea confronted them both at the Gotham's World Fair, during which she disappeared from his life. Calling herself the Phantasm, Andrea targeted Carl's former assocaites, drawing Batman's attention to her activities. Stricken with grief, she took to avenging her father upon the mob, adopting a identity based on the Grim Reaper.
Whilst returning home one day, Andrea watched a hitman leave their house and, upon entering, discovered her father had been murdered. Some time after they fled, the Beaumonts' locations was given to the mob by their former accountant Arthur Reeves. This act led Bruce to fall back into despair and become the vigilante Batman. After he proposed to her, Andrea learned of her father's mob connections and reluctantly agreed to leave the country with him, sending her ring back to Wayne. Andrea's relationship with Bruce helped him heal for the first time since his parents' murder, to the point where he decided to abandon his crusade to be with her. When Bruce Wayne returned to Gotham to begin his crusade, the two met by coincidence and began dating.
Unknown to Andrea, her father was also involved the Salvatore Valestra's mob. The daughter of Carl and Victoria Beaumont, she lost her mother at an uncertain time. The Phantasm first appeared in the DC Animated Universe film Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, serving as the title antagonist. Main article: The Phantasm (DC Animated Universe)
